Liverpool’s Three Stars: Sevilla (A)

A really disappointing game. Late equalisers and capitulations is something we’ve just grown accustomed to over the years.

Some players did play well (mostly in the first-half), so here’s my three standout performers in Liverpool’s 3-3 draw against Sevilla.

Roberto Firmino

Two goals and an assist for the Brazillian means he’s my Liverpool man of the match. He didn’t impress too much in the second-half but I think that’s got a lot to do with the team’s awful showing.

His pressing, as usual, was excellent and he won possession back on multiple occasions. Like I said, he didn’t do too much in the second-half and was barely involved but he still tracked back a lot of the time.

Sadio Mane

Mane was brilliant in the first-half and caused Sevilla all sorts of problems with his intelligent running and blistering pace. Like Firmino, he didn’t really get involved too much in the second-half.

I think he should have done a lot better with the chance he had in the second-half where he took a wild swing at it with his left foot. The Senegalese international took his goal very well, though, with a great diving header.

Gini Wijnaldum

Honestly, with the way the side capitulated in the second-half, it was tricky to pick a third standout performer. Wijnaldum wasn’t noticeably bad and had a few good moments in the game.

When the side came under that surge of pressure at the start of the second-half, I thought Wijnaldum was one of the only players who kept his composure. He won the ball back a few times, too, meaning he’s my third and final standout player.
