Lyon defender on Reds’ radar

Liverpool are interested in Lyon defender, Samuel Umtiti, according to The Independent.

The report claims that the Reds are one of three Premier League clubs tracking the highly-rated defender.

Chelsea and Arsenal could make it more difficult for Liverpool to get their man, with more financial power and the attraction of Champions League football.

Umtiti is 21-years-old and has a vast amount of experience for someone of such a young age.

He has represented his parent club Lyon exactly 100 times already, Umtiti has made seven appearances for France Under-21s, too.

The French defender is predominantly a centre-back – however, he has filled in at left-back for his club at times.

Umtiti was a significant part of Lyon’s impressive domestic season and helped his side pick up 17 clean sheets in Ligue 1, with 36 appearances.

Brendan Rodgers has shown his admiration of versatile players in the past and Umtiti could fall within this bracket.

Also, the fact he can play either left-back or centre-back, could mean he would be good for the 3-4-2-1 system we saw last season.
