Opinion: Liverpool winger Luis Diaz stole the show in CC victory

Liverpool winger Luis Diaz has been nothing short of a revelation since arriving from FC Porto in January.

The 25-year-old has already lifted the first piece of silverware for the Reds having played a leading role in the Carabao Cup victory over Chelsea.

Despite ultimately being decided on penalties when goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher netted before Kepa Arrizabalaga blazed over into jubilant Liverpool supporters, Diaz was a danger throughout the entire contest.

So often the man to get Jurgen Klopp’s side on the front foot, the Colombian earned a 6.60 Sofascore rating as well as praise from Anfield legend Jamie Carragher.

Here’s how we rated the rest of the Liverpool stars…

READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

XI: Caoimhin Kelleher 8; Trent Alexander-Arnold 7, Joel Matip 7, Virgil van Dijk 8, Andy Robertson 7; Fabinho 7, Jordan Henderson 7, Naby Keita 7; Mohamed Salah 6, Luis Diaz 9, Sadio Mane 7.

Subs: Harvey Elliott 7, Diogo Jota 6, Ibrahima Konate 7, Divock Origi 6.

Albeit it was the ever imperious Virgil van Dijk who claimed the official man of the match award – perhaps unsurprisingly given the 0-0 scoreline – Diaz was truly sensational to watch at times.

If the dazzling Colombian can iron out issues in terms of knowing when not to play in dangerous areas, Klopp has yet another superstar in the ranks.
