Virgil van Dijk wins PFA Player of the Year award

Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk has scooped the PFA Player of the Year award and has been pictured holding the trophy alongside his teammates.

The central defender has enjoyed a fine first full season at Anfield, contributing to the club’s pursuit of Premier League glory.

Van Dijk has been instrumental for Jurgen Klopp, who has seen his side rise to second in the table, trailing Manchester City by just a point with two games to go.

The Netherlands international pipped the likes of City star Raheem Sterling to the award despite Pep Guardiola’s side’s current league standing.

Van Dijk has been a pivotal part of the Reds line-up since his £75 million switch from Southampton in January 2018.

The defender will now be hoping to help Liverpool finish the season on a high as they gear up for their two remaining domestic fixtures against Newcastle United and Wolves, along with a Champions League semi-final date with Barcelona.
