Klopp intent on signing Serie A defender this month

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wants to wrap up a deal to sign Juventus defender Martin Caceres this month, according to Calciomercato.

The Uruguay international is out of contract in the summer, but the Italian publication claim that Klopp wants to take the 28-year-old to Anfield now to help solve his defensive crisis.

The Reds are currently without Martin Skrtel, Mamadou Sakho and Dejan Lovren through injury, which leaves them with just two recognised central defenders – 34-year-old Kolo Toure, and Tiago Ilori, who returned from his loan spell at Aston Villa in time to make his Liverpool debut at Exeter City on Friday night.

Caceres has a Champions League winner’s medal to his name, having represented Barcelona in the 2008-09 campaign in which they also won La Liga and the Copa del Rey.

He has also won the Copa America with Uruguay in 2011, and four back-to-back Serie A titles with Juventus.

The former Sevilla centre-back has only featured three times for the Old Lady in the league this season.
