Klopp plays down move for Gabriel Barbosa

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has played down speculation linking him with a swoop for Flamengo striker Gabriel Barbosa in January.

Klopp says that he does not think about opposition players, as he has so much faith in the quality of his current squad.

Speaking to The Daily Mail, via HITC, Klopp said this when asked about a swoop for Barbosa:

I love my squad. I have the best team I wish for. I don’t think about other players from other teams.

This came after Barbosa said that “Liverpool is a team that everyone wants to play for” ahead of the Club World Cup final.

Barbosa has scored 43 goals in 58 games for Flamengo, whilst on loan from Inter, which is certainly an impressive record. However, he has not proven himself in Europe or in any major league, which means that it would be somewhat of a risky signing.

Klopp played coy when asked the question, but there is little you can take from that these days. He would be a good rotation option for Klopp and a different type of striker to Firmino, possibly to come on as an impact substitute if Liverpool ever need to change a game. At this moment in time, though, it appears as though he is not a target for Liverpool.
