Klopp’s first managerial act

All has been revealed about Jürgen Klopp’s ‘three envelopes’ moment courtesy of the Liverpool Echo.

The Reds’ boss reportedly wrote the word “TERRIBLE” on a tactics board in front of his players – an act which must have prompted some interesting thoughts.

Klopp wasn’t describing his new side’s recent performances, however. In fact, it was a word to describe how opposition teams should feel after a 90 minute game against Liverpool.

This involves running more than opponents, pressing harder than them and then attacking with pace, guile and quality when winning the ball back. Klopp was very clear on these things.

‘Terrible’ might not be a word Tottenham, Rubin Kazan or Southampton would use to describe their respective games against Liverpool, but what is evident is a renewed sense of spirit, a renewed desire to work hard and a renewed realisation of the challenge facing Klopp.

Injuries are hampering the German’s ability to make a full effort to reverse Liverpool’s fortunes. The fixture list is fierce too, with games coming every few days.

The League Cup 4th round tie tonight looks like providing Klopp with a chance to rotate his squad, with Connor Randall, Cameron Brannagan and Joao Teixeira set to start against Bournemouth.
