Madrid to swoop for Moreno

After the recent departure of left-back Fabio Coentrao, Real Madrid are in the market for a new left-back and according to Spanish newspaper AS, Alberto Moreno is on their radar.

As it stands, Madrid only have one natural left-back in their squad in Marcelo and Moreno would be a solid cover full-back for the Spanish side.

The left-back, who only transferred to the Reds last summer, has seen his hopes of first-team football dented by Brendan Rodgers’ failure to include the Spaniard in any of his opening four starting line-ups.

Joe Gomez has been preferred to Moreno recently and Gomez’s impressive performances haven’t helped Moreno’s chances.

However, when Moreno has come on, he’s looked sharp. He’s been playing in a more advanced position to offer Gomez the defensive support and then the Spanish international could also be more influential on the counter attack.

Moreno did take some stick in his first season at the club. He started off brilliantly and everyone could see what a talent he was – especially going forward.

His defensive contribution, though, didn’t please the Liverpool fans. Moreno has a tendency to be caught napping when in an advanced position offensively, leaving the Liverpool defence even more vulnerable to be hit on the break
