Liverpool’s wretched 2025/26 Premier League season will finally be put out of its misery later today, as Brentford travels to Anfield to close out the campaign once and for all.
Thankfully, there isn’t an awful lot riding on the game, as the Reds look secure in grabbing Champions League football now, but it would, of course, be nice to see out such a turbulent season on Merseyside, which has seen the Reds lose a dire 12 Premier League games, with one final victory.
The main headline news heading into the game on Sunday afternoon is that both Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah will be pulling on Liverpool red for one final time, bringing their respective nine-year stays, which have seen the duo hoist Premier Leagues and Champions Leagues aloft, to an emotional end.
Can either of the decorated servants grab one final goal for Arne Slot‘s men today?
With talk, too, that Alisson could be off in the summer, alongside Joe Gomez, it really does feel like a showdown of farewells today against Keith Andrews’ visitors, as the Reds attempt to rebuild and reshape in the summer to bounce back from their disappointing 25/26 offerings.
Everything you need to know, ahead of the final day clash at Anfield, is below.
How to watch
The final day matchup between the Reds and the Bees will be available to watch on Sky Sports+, with the game officially getting underway at 4 pm.
The match buildup starts at 3 pm, with all ten of the Premier League’s final games of the season available to watch via Sky Sports+.
Recent form
Liverpool (home team)
Liverpool’s recent form gives you just a flavour as to why the Anfield masses are looking forward to turning their backs on the 25/26 campaign.
The Merseyside giants have only won two of their last five games in the Premier League, with losses to Manchester United and Aston Villa seeing Slot’s men leak a sorry seven goals in 3-2 and 4-2 defeats.
Drawing 1-1 to Chelsea was another lacklustre result, considering the showdown was played at Anfield, with a hope that home advantage counts for something later on today, so both Robertson and Salah can bow out in style, rather than leave the Reds on a whimper.
Brentford (away team)
Andrews’ visitors aren’t in a rich vein of form themselves.
Indeed, Brentford have only picked up one win across their last five Premier League games, despite sitting in ninth position in the league standings, which came when West Ham United travelled to the GTech Community Stadium to be humiliated 3-0 by the rampant hosts.
Other than this convincing win, putting a temporary smile on the faces of the Brentford masses, it has been rocky to be a Bees fan as of late, with losses to both Manchester United and Manchester City on the road potentially filling Slot’s men with confidence.
Yet, when the teams met earlier in the season, Brentford won a goal-filled affair, 3-2.
Despite this positive result for the West London hosts, the head-to-head record between the two teams over the years suggests a Liverpool home win should be forthcoming.
Head-to-head results
Staggeringly, Brentford have never actually beaten Liverpool on their travels, across 24 meetings between the two teams in their respective histories.
Liverpool have come out on top 15 times, Brentford have won five times, and there have been four draws between the two teams overall.
Liverpool vs Brentford: Head-to-Head Results:
| Outcome | Matches |
| Liverpool Wins | 14 |
| Draws | 4 |
| Brentford Wins | 5 |

The last four times the Bees have made the lengthy journey up to Merseyside, they have failed to find the back of the net, with the Reds often winning the matchups, when Anfield is the setting, comfortably, with a 2-0 win secured on their own turf during Slot’s title-winning campaign.

What has been said
Arne Slot (Liverpool):
The under-fire head coach answered several questions ahead of the curtain coming down on Liverpool’s topsy-turvy Premier League season, with the Dutchman surely ready to put his bickering with Salah to one side, to give him one final emotional outing at Anfield.
He didn’t open up too much about his team selection, but he did have this to say on Salah’s ‘heavy metal football’ outburst on social media.
Slot said: “No, I don’t think it’s that important what I feel about it. What is important is that we qualify for the Champions League [on] Sunday and I prepare Mo and all of the rest in the best possible way and the whole team to be ready for the game on Sunday.
“That is what matters. I was very disappointed after our loss against [Aston] Villa because a win would have given us qualification for the Champions League. And now there’s one game to go, which is a vital one for us as a club.”
Alongside acknowledging that the revered Egyptian and Robertson will be walking away from the club at the full-time whistle, Slot also took time out of his press conference to congratulate Virgil Van Dijk, who hasn’t missed a single minute of Premier League action this season.
He further said: “That’s a great accomplishment. It’s not as simple as people might think. Playing every game in a league like this, it’s already a great accomplishment, let alone if you are of his age. But it also tells you maybe something about how our season has gone, and I mean then in terms of injuries and players available.
“Because I think if I would have had always all the players available, I would have rested him once or twice as well, and I wasn’t able to. The good thing is I didn’t need to because I could every time play him and that is unbelievable, especially because it’s been a season with so many setbacks.
“So, it’s much easier for a player to stay fit if things go well, like last season. I think he only missed one game after we won the league – I didn’t play him against Brighton.
“But in a season where we’ve had so many setbacks, so many disappointments, it’s even a bigger accomplishment to stay fit and stay available even more at his age. Although the way he takes care of his body, he’s probably younger than his age tells us.”
Keith Andrews (Brentford):
Andrews took time out of his own press conference to state how much of a help Jordan Henderson has been to his team’s ranks this season, with the ex-Liverpool captain returning to Anfield on Sunday noted as being an “emotional” moment for him by his manager.
He said: “His professionalism is as good as or the best I’ve ever seen: how he prepares for games, how he recovers in between games, his focus and desire to still be a top performer. It’s so impressive.
“Going back to Anfield will be obviously quite special and quite emotional for him.
“The part that he played in their history was hugely significant. He was a massive player for them for such a long period of time; he captained them to the Premier League and Champions League. You’re talking about iconic moments in a big club’s history.
“I have no doubt that he’ll get a brilliant welcome on Sunday when he goes back to Anfield, and he deserves that.”
