Liverpool linked with move for Kristoffer Ajer

Liverpool have shown an interest in signing Norwegian international defender Kristoffer Ajer from Celtic, according to the usually reliable Celtic Underground,

Dejan Lovren left Anfield earlier this summer to make a switch to Zenit and as such, Jurgen Klopp only has three senior centre-backs at his disposal in terms of first-team options; Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk.

As such, it looks like Ajer is one of the players he’s keeping tabs on ahead of the new season.

Ajer grew up in Norway as a big Liverpool fan, which could make it easier for The Reds to agree personal terms with him if a deal can be struck with Celtic.

However, if Liverpool are looking for a cheap option to come in as a fourth-choice, then Ajer may not be that man.

Despite the impact of the pandemic, Celtic are still said to be in a relatively strong position financially and with Ajer under contract, they have no need to sell him on the cheap.
